At its developer-focused conference (IDF2010) surrounded by hundreds of people who make technology magic happen and those who support them, Intel Corporation demonstrated how the company is providing a foundation on which to build common hardware, software and ecosystem solutions to make computing experiences and devices work together seamlessly and easier to use.
The MeeGo Community at IDF is formed around innovative solutions that scale and are interoperable across multiple usage models and types of mobile and embedded devices (such as In-vehicle Infotainment, media phones) powered by the Intel® Atom™ processor.
MeeGo came up during Renee’s (SVP of GM Software and Services Group) talk. Having a unified developer platform spawns efficiency, and helps developers make money, particularly with the million-dollar investment in the Atom Developer Program. AppUp is a model that allows developers to create a single community of Atom applications targeted to different devices, and is embedded in a variety of store environments. UI, form factors, and power management are variables, but having a code base that lets you port an application to a variety of devices is a huge benefit.
The big job here is bringing all of the elements together, and Intel has a number of partners who are helping to drive the technology forward, and who are devoted to seeing these integrations and enhancements come together to, as Renee put it, ‘make the future a reality today.’
Sneak peek at the reference design of the MeeGo user interface shows off a nice array of eye candy and is expected deliver an “iconic user experience and integrated internet services in one aesthetic package” with a strong focus on Internet-based social networking services and user experience.
User interface (UI) is one of those jargony-sounding terms that are often used to make one feel smarter or better informed than really is. It is a term that you've probably heard before but you may have never heard clear and precise definition, although it has a very simple meaning!
User interface is the way in which the product is designed to interact with the user in terms of the graphical, textual, and auditory information the program presents to the. In simple words it is set of all the things that allow you and your phone to communicate with each other ynd therefore it is one of the most important aspects of any operating system. The main benefit of MeeGo UI will allows users to interact with applications in better ways, simplifying finger-based interaction with UI components, allowing common basic gestures and multi-touch gestures as well as enabling extensibility.
About the MeeGo Project
The MeeGo project combines Intel’s Moblin™ and Nokia’s Maemo projects into one Linux-based, open source software platform for the next generation of computing devices. The MeeGo software platform is designed to give developers the broadest range of device segments to target for their applications, including netbooks and entry-level desktops, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, connected TVs, media phones and more – all using a uniform set of APIs based on Qt. For consumers, MeeGo will offer innovative application experiences that they can take from device to device. The MeeGo project is hosted by the Linux Foundation.
