toolsJust want to give everyone a quick heads up that Nokia has rolled out minor firmware update (3.2010.02-8) for Nokia N900 and you can get it as Firmware Over the Air (firmware over the air) through the Application manager or with Nokia Software Updater As well but in that case you'll lose all settings and apllications as well so be sure that you have valid back up before update.

If you haven’t been warned yet, than enable internet connection and refresh app manager and you should see the 16.2 MB large Firmware version 3.2010.02-8. It should be available for most of the generic product codes but owners of branded devices might have to wait a bit longer.

Although there is no detailed change log it is still highly suggestible to get it as it usually brings dozens of minor bug fixes and improves reliability of your pho... .. .

Mozilla Is Betting On Linux-Based Mobile Operating Systems!!

Monday, 19 October 2009 16:00

Written by Apocalypso.

maemofirefox_tmIn an interview with GigaOM, Mozilla CEO Jon Lily hinted that Mozilla is betting heavily on two major Linux-Based Mobile Operating Systems, Nokia’s Maemo and Google’s Android platform and not expecting that Mozilla will support the BlackBerry OS and other mobile platforms except Windows Mobile anytime soon.

Latest Beta of Fennec browser can already be used on Nokia's Maemo powered N900 Smartphone and Lilly is overall very positive for the N900 because it based on a modern OS "built with the internet in mind" and is aimed to provides consumers with the same Internet services they have become accustomed to on their desktop PC. Lilly has admitted that Firefox is behind other WebKit-based brow... .. .

Freaker's Special: Mod Your N900 Boot Animation!!

Friday, 16 October 2009 06:30

Written by Chris McFann

nokia_connecting_tmOne of the best thing about being a mobile Freak is modding the skin off of your mobile to give it your own personal touch. My love for Symbian OS is mainly rooted in being able to really personalize my device.

I've always had custom boot animations on my S60 devices, and wondered how much freedom we could expect from the N900. The guys at "The .Org", the official developer home for Maemo developers, have an answer already, and its amazingly simple.

Maemo.org forum member claesbas knew about the customizability of the Maemo 5 OS, and used his excellent animation skills to make a gorgeous custom boot animation, and submitted it to the community to use. (Isn't the open source philosophy great?) Fellow member VDVsx chann.. .. .

Latest rumours: Nokia N920 Spotted In The Wild!?

Thursday, 15 October 2009 09:28

Written by Apocalypso.

rumoursThe first information about the slimmer and keyboard-less variant of the Nokia’s flagship device has made the rounds throughout the internet rumour mill couple of months ago even before official release of the Nokia N900 now thanks to the folks over at nokia port we just got the first blurry photo of what is said to be the next Nokia’s Maemo based device.

As of now, there is no word about specifications and photos aren’t confirmed by any official sources whatsoever, but phone look so real that is hardly to believe that something like this is photoshopped hoax!? I'm not saying that couldn't be faked or this is not yet another Chinese clone that physically resembles the Nokia N900 but it looks too good to not be true.

According to folks over at iMobile365, the new Nokia N920 may be first Nseries device equipped with capacitive screen and multitouch support which leads to conclusion that it could be powered with the upcoming Maemo 6 OS that is supposed to bring native support for the mult... .. .

#1 N900 Wish? Full Portrait Mode... And I Told You So!!

Thursday, 15 October 2009 07:06

Written by Chris McFann

shake_hands_tmOver the past few years, I've been able to work with software developers and the mobile computing community to create new features and applications to make mobile computing easier and appealing to a larger audience.

It brings a real feeling of satisfaction to see a normal user have a great idea and watch the software community bring the thought into a tangible experience, quenching the thirst of the mobilist. I try to closely study the usage models of today's mobilist, and have a forward view towards what mobile computing will become.

When the N900 was unveiled, I immediately recognized its potential. The debut of the Maemo 5 geniusphone (it's too precedent-setting to be called a smartphone) had the makings of a future mobile computing standard, something that has been slowly taking place ov... .. .

VIDEO: Keyboard Makes Way For Control Surfaces

Wednesday, 14 October 2009 09:35

qwerty_tmMessaging related phones have become all the rage as the texting continues to grow as a preferred way of quick communication, sms, e-mail and messengers are very poplar way of the communication nowadays and Nokia N900 looks like the perfect choice if you want to get the rid of the t9 and stay connected with friends when you are away from a computer.

Full touchscreen devices offers user-friendly interface and works brilliantly in some applications such as web browsing or navigating through large number of photos but the usability breaks down significantly when you need to input a large amount of text.

Nokia N900 is also a full touchscreen device but as it also slides up lengthwise to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard with a REAL tactile feedback that quickly transform this powerful smartphone into mini laptop with huge touch sen... .. .

N900's Gaming Prowess Makes Competition Quake!!!

Monday, 12 October 2009 22:37

Written by Chris McFann

quake_3_tmWe see games on mobiles everyday, but usually they're nothing close to their PC and console counterparts. But evidently, the N900 is no ordinary mobile device.

YouTube poster twaelti has given us a peek at the N900's graphical capabilities as well as the agility of the Maemo 5 OS. Showing the N900 running Quake III, the video is unlike anything we've ever seen on a mobile. I know we've seen ports of Quake and Doom on Symbian and Windows Mobile devices, but nothing as smooth and complete as this.

In fact, I see no difference in performance between the original version and this mobile port. Evidently, the TI OMAP 3430 processor based ARM Cortex-A8 platform is up for the job in regards to graphical heavy lifting... .. .
