toolsJust want to give everyone a quick heads up that Nokia has rolled out minor firmware update (3.2010.02-8) for Nokia N900 and you can get it as Firmware Over the Air (firmware over the air) through the Application manager or with Nokia Software Updater As well but in that case you'll lose all settings and apllications as well so be sure that you have valid back up before update.

If you haven’t been warned yet, than enable internet connection and refresh app manager and you should see the 16.2 MB large Firmware version 3.2010.02-8. It should be available for most of the generic product codes but owners of branded devices might have to wait a bit longer.

Although there is no detailed change log it is still highly suggestible to get it as it usually brings dozens of minor bug fixes and improves reliability of your pho... .. .

N900: First Bounce Evolution Game Screenshot Leaked

Tuesday, 06 October 2009 10:37

Written by Apocalypso.

bounce_maemoIt's not much, in fact, but Swedish-language mobile portal, has posted what is claimed to be the first screenshot of the Bounce Evolution game, about which we posted the first info and short video demo couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, I guess most of you will agree that only way to test the phone's 3D graphics performance (more about you can read right here) is to run some heavy-duty 3D game using it and at the risk of repeating myself, I must reiterate that that Bounce Evolution is indeed heavy-duty game that undoubtedly show the real power of the build in hardware.

Sure it’s hard to say much based on a single screenshot and the short video demo but I truly believe that Nokia N900 will be able to process this beaut.... .. .

Nokia N900 Bargian Hunter News

Friday, 02 October 2009 06:23

Written by Chris McFann

article_tmThe Nokia N900, Nokia's recently announced Maemo Linux smartphone, is already one of the most talked about electronics devices on the web. Even getting mentioned on The iPhone Blog, the N900 has shockingly risen into the top ten best selling unlocked mobile devices above $500 on Amazon.com, and all via preorders, with the device not expected on retail shelves for another 2-4 weeks.

Obviously, the world has been N900 shopping. Nokia.com lists the N900 at 499 GBP in the UK, and $649 USD in the US along with a free bluetooth headset. But what type of deals can be had for those willing to search for the best deal? Is the N900 really as expensive as previously announced, or are there opportunities to get this powerhouse for a reasonable price?

I did a little sleuthing of my own, searching for the best N900 deals in the land. I ignored the "too good to be true" offers (One retailer claimed to have the N900 in stock and read... .. .

Anyone Miss The Good Old Super Nintendo Games!?

Thursday, 01 October 2009 09:16

Written by Apocalypso.

snes_tmOK, it's still in the early stages and not available for public but fact that N900 is powerful enough to process and run the SNES emulator with Wiimote support through the TV out is freakin’ awesome.

So if you one of those Nintendo fans who grew up in the NES days and you miss the good old school video games and you are planning to get Nokia N900 you’ll be able to run emulator and play these oldie games straight away on a big screen with intuitive Wiimote controls.

Linux isn't the best possible gaming solution but thanks to the numerous available emulators it is still possible to create a great gaming experience and fortunately Nokia N900 which is also based on the Linux platform is not excepted from this general rule! Anyway, I just hope that this great work from develo... .. .

Nokia In Brazilian Jujitsu Battle Over Ovi Name

Monday, 28 September 2009 20:36

Written by Chris McFann

lawYou remember the old childhood song by George and Ira Gershwin, "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off"... "You like poTAto and I like poTAHto, You like toMAto and I like toMAHto; PoTAto, poTAHto, toMAto, toMAHto! Let's call the whole thing off!"

I thought you would. But evidently, not everyone does. According to Reuters European technology correspondent Tarmo Virki, Brazilian telecom services outfit Ouvi Divulgacao e Marketing em Celulares Ltda, which is Portuguese for "we sell ringtones, games, and whatnot" (Not really, kids. Say in school...) told Reuters that Nokia is misusing the Ovi brand in Brazil, and trying to compete directly its own Ouvi, a brand the Brazilian company has used since 2004. Both brands are pronounced OH-vee, so this could get pretty sticky.

Nokia has been using the Ovi brand since 2007, which is a good three years after the Brazilian company. But here's the real situation. Nokia claims to have filed trademark applications for Ovi before the Brazilian company, but neither party has its trademark duly issued and regis... .. .

Help Add Automatic Screen Rotation to the N900

Monday, 28 September 2009 20:29

Written by Chris McFann

toolsThe Nokia N900 is mere weeks from landing in our hands, and soon we'll be able to finally add features at will without having to hack and force our way around the wishes of Nokia. It will be a fine day for Freaks across the world. But luckily, you don't have to wait to get started. You can participate NOW!

One of the biggest initial shortcomings of the N900 is its lack of portrait mode support throughout the device user interface, something Symbian users take for granted. Currently, only the Phone and third party apps will allow portrait mode and automatic screen rotation via the included but underutilized accelerometer.

Whether Nokia will change this in the future isn't clear, nor is it important, because Maemo is an open source OS. So we can add it ourselves. Unfortunately, its easier said than done, since adding Automatic Screen Rotation brings along many issues that need solving. The good news is there is a venue to solve those proble... .. .
